I was on a humanitarian mission in Kandahar in Afghanistan, and was passing through airport security. This was a low-tech set up, with bags and bodies physically searched. I was directed to enter a small white prefab container for my search. There was an older lady, and a young girl, in the room. She motioned for me to open my bag, and set about going through

every little thing. She curiously opened my bag of coco pops (without the box) and I spied her dirty yellowed fingernails as she reached into the bag and pulled out a handful. She sniffed them, she tasted them, and then she motioned to the girl to come and sit cross-legged beside her, and motioned forward to me with the bag. What could I say, exactly?! She tipped about half the contents of the bag into the girl's lap and then re-tied the elastic band and put it back in my bag, then waved me on as if she was tired of my presence. I have no idea if she knew what coco pops were, or how you normally would eat them, so who knows what happened to them!
